Scam calls reach Thais in every corner of the country, from Bangkok condos to rice fields in the northeast. So when Gogolook (Thailand) Co., Ltd., the TrustTech company behind Whoscall, set out to reach them, it chose not to treat Thailand as one audience. Instead, it went local, borrowing the language, livelihoods and everyday objects of each community to build its campaign “Please, Just Download!”. The result: nearly 22 million views across social platforms in the campaign’s first week.

The idea starts with a simple habit. When an unfamiliar number calls, many people’s first thought is “scammer,” and hanging up feels like the safest option. But that unknown number could just as easily be a delivery rider, a repair technician, a doctor, a friend with a new number, or someone with important news. Rather than telling people to hang up, Whoscall flipped the brief: help Thais know who’s calling before they decide, under the message “Answer the right call”.

“The film also travelled well beyond Thailand. In late September, Taiwanese broadcaster FTV News featured the ad in a segment on how the Taiwan-born brand’s Thai campaign had gone viral on social media, highlighting its comedic take on a situation people everywhere recognise: ignoring an unknown number to avoid a scam, only to miss an important call.”

To bring the idea to life, Whoscall partnered with SOUR Bangkok, an award-winning Thai independent creative agency. SOUR Bangkok tied for fifth place in The One Show 2026 APAC Independent Agency Rankings, the only Thai agency in the top five. The two have worked together before in 2023 but this time, SOUR Bangkok worked with Whoscall from uncovering the core insight through to rolling out the campaign in waves.

The campaign opened with a film featuring people from all walks of life whose calls often get mistaken for scams. They show up at people’s front doors and press their palms together in a “wai,” pleading for the chance to be recognised before they’re hung up on, and asking viewers to download Whoscall so they can tell the calls worth answering from the ones worth cutting off. Whoscall also teamed up with trusted organisations that face the same problem of customers hanging up on them, running joint campaigns and offering Whoscall Premium codes to their customers. Partners include Flash Express, the Bangkok Hospital group, The Transport Co., Ltd. (BKS), Silkspan, Kashjoy, KINTO, CLICX, Atier, Anri Bakery and more.

The campaign then moved into rural Thailand, starting with farmers during harvest season. It’s a time when farmers receive lump-sum payments for their crops, which also makes it prime time for call centre scammers. Whoscall’s answer was the praying scarecrow. Taking the familiar figure that guards rice fields across Thailand, Whoscall reimagined it as a scarecrow that wards off scammers, posed in a respectful ‘wai’, sometimes standing, sometimes bowing low, and made to be photographed. Up close, each one carries messages written in the local dialects of Thailand’s four regions, along with a QR code so people in the area can download the app on the spot.

From the fields, the campaign rolled right up to people’s homes with the “Phum Phuang Truck”, the mobile grocery truck that’s a familiar sight in Thai neighbourhoods. Instead of calling customers out to buy groceries, the truck called people out to download the app, handing out more than 20 kinds of groceries and 700 bags a day, each item paired with a playful message. The truck made its debut in Nakhon Pathom with Gen Z favourite Hai Apaporn Nakornsawan playing the truck’s vendor. The familiar sing-song grocery announcement was reworked into a scam warning, complete with food-based wordplay, turning a neighbourhood grocery run into both a giveaway and a community scam alert.

The local approach resonated well beyond the communities it reached in person. In its first week, the campaign drew a total of 22M views across all social platforms, led by Facebook and Instagram with 18,020,644 views, followed by YouTube with 2,614,616 and TikTok with 1,336,508 views.

Titinun Suttinaraphan, Global Marketing Director at Gogolook, said “Scammers target people everywhere, but protecting communities requires more than a one-size-fits-all approach. We understand that people in Thailand don’t want to miss important calls, yet fear of scams leads many to avoid answering unfamiliar numbers. Whoscall’s goal is to help people make informed decisions through communication that reflects the language, way of life, and familiar sights of each community, from a webfilm ad on a relatable insight to scam-deterring scarecrows in rice fields and mobile grocery trucks at people’s doorsteps. We want the campaign’s humor to bring smiles and encourage sharing, while turning awareness into action. Downloading Whoscall to help identify who’s calling and encouraging family members to use it too. This gives people a tool they can turn to when an unfamiliar number calls, along with the information they need to decide which calls to answer and which to reject.”

Monprapa Rattanakanokporn, Thailand Country Marketing Lead for Gogolook, said “Through conversations with delivery riders, hospital staff and transportation providers, we realised that the fear of answering unfamiliar calls affects both sides of the conversation. People may be worried about picking up a scam call, while those trying to reach them could be calling to deliver a package, confirm an appointment or provide an important service.

That’s why this campaign goes beyond protecting people from scammers. Our partners are not just supporting the campaign, they experience the same challenge in their everyday work and share our goal of helping people feel more confident answering important calls. We believe protecting people from scams shouldn’t come at the cost of losing trust in everyday communication.”

By tailoring its message to the language, lifestyle and context of each community, Whoscall has taken scam protection off the phone screen and into the places Thais live and work. When an unknown number could be either an important call or a scam, the goal isn’t to stop answering. It’s to answer the real calls and cut off the scammers.
